The U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section is pleased to announce we are currently accepting applications for the 2022 Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), an annual worldwide grant competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The AFCP Program was established in 2001 by Congress to assist countries in cultural heritage preservation while also demonstrating American respect for other cultures.

In Nigeria, 10 AFCP grants totaling over $1 million since 2003 have resulted in our helping preserve a number of ancient archaeological sites, historic buildings and monuments, and major museum collections of special historical or cultural significance, including: the preservation of Islamic manuscripts, National Archives; the restoration of the Gobarau Minaret, Katsina; the preservation of the Kansakali Gate, Kano; the conservation of pottery collections, National Museum of Unity, Ibadan; and the conservation of collections, National Museum, Jos.

The U.S. Embassy Nigeria - AFCP grant awards range from USD $10,000 to USD $500,000. However, worldwide competition is keen and no single country is guaranteed an award.  Eligible organizations are welcome to submit their Nigeria proposals to PASAbujaGrants@State.gov.
